Terms of use
Plain terms for a small site. By reading these pages you accept them. They exist less to protect us than to be clear with you about what our notes are, because a guide written from a show hall in Cape Town is not professional advice and should not be treated as if it were.

What this site is
A collection of notes, guides and opinions written by two private motorists about motor shows, expos, concours displays, touring, luxury test drives, long-distance comfort, car hire and choosing a car. It is published for general interest and for the practical benefit of drivers who are tired of being sold to.
It is not a dealership, an agency, a brokerage, a valuation service or an advisory practice. No licence, registration or professional accreditation sits behind anything written here, and we would rather say that plainly on this page than let anyone assume otherwise.
What you may rely on, and what you may not
Rely on us to have been where we say we have been and to report what we found. Do not rely on any figure here as current, because ticket prices, parking charges, service costs, hire rates and workshop fees all change, and every rand figure on this site is marked indicative for that reason.
Decisions about spending money on a vehicle are yours. Before you commit, get the facts confirmed by the party who will have to honour them: the service interval from the service documentation, the premium from the insurer, the warranty position in writing, the mechanical condition from a qualified inspector.
Using our words elsewhere
The text and photographs on this site belong to the two people who made them. Quote a sentence or two with a link back and we will be pleased. Lift a whole guide onto another site, or feed the lot into something that regurgitates it under another name, and we will ask you to take it down.
If you want to reproduce something properly, for a club newsletter or a printed programme, phone and ask. The answer is usually yes and costs nothing.
Links to other places
Where we point at a venue, a public body or a route map, we do so because it was useful when we checked it. We have no control over what sits at the other end of a link and no responsibility for it. If a link has gone stale or now leads somewhere unpleasant, tell us and it comes out the same day.
We take no payment for any link. There is no affiliate arrangement anywhere on this site, including on the price list.
Bookings and payment for the jobs we do
Prices on the services page are indicative. We confirm the figure for your specific job in writing before any work starts, and if it turns out smaller than expected we charge less rather than keeping the difference. Payment is due after the work, not before.
You may cancel a booked walkthrough or assessment at any point up to the day before without owing us anything. On the day itself, if we have already travelled or bought a ticket, we would ask you to cover that actual cost and nothing more. Shows get cancelled and people get ill; we are not going to be difficult about either.
Limits on what we are answerable for
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from a decision you took after reading these pages, nor for any indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and nothing here is intended to limit your rights as a consumer under South African law.
If you think we have got something factually wrong, tell us. A correction is cheaper for everybody than an argument, and we have published several.
Changes, and the law that applies
We rewrite these pages fairly often, usually because a hall has moved or a figure has drifted. The version on the site is the version that applies, and we do not keep an archive of older wording. There are no dates printed in the text because the build prints the live ones for you.
South African law governs these terms, and the South African courts have jurisdiction over any dispute about them. We are in Cape Town; practically speaking, so is any argument.
